Swett \u2014 a 44-year old truck driver \u2014 says he sat on a gurney until he was discharged. Then in June of last year, the hospital filed a court summons, the beginning of its attempt to collect the $2,539.43 it said Swett owed for his trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u201c<em>I went there, and it was my responsibility for going there. But at the same time, you don\u2019t even take my temperature, you don\u2019t do anything, you just basically let me sit, and then you stick me with a bill and take me to court,<\/em>\u201d Swett said. \u201c<em>That\u2019s what I didn\u2019t feel was right.<\/em>\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The big picture:<\/strong>&nbsp;Rising deductibles and out-of-pocket costs are increasingly leaving patients responsible for bloated medical bills.
